AEHAP Info for Program Faculty & Staff
At the core, AEHAP was formed to champion EHAC Accredited degree Programs at colleges and universities across the country. The mission has remained the same though strategies and methods have changed over the past 25 years since AEHAP's formation in 1999. In late 2017 AEHAP became a primarily board volunteer run organization. At the 25-year mark, it has been decided by the AEHAP Board and Program Membership that it is time to sunset the organization. We expect to complete the process by the end of July 2024.
As they have since 1967, EHAC continues and will continue to carry on the mission of maintaining the high standards of Environmental Health program accreditation. The decision by AEHAP to sunset the organization, does not impact the operations, finances or ongoing work of EHAC. EHAC has always been a separate organization. The EHAC Board, Executive Director and the Council remain committed to the mission of strengthening the EH profession and workforce growth through EH accredited education.
Sunsetting AEHAP - The Decision Process
Following an unsuccessful grant application in 2022, the question became is there a way forward for AEHAP as an independent organization?
Even though the desire for an organization such as AEHAP was confirmed in a June 2023 survey, ultimately, we could not rally the support needed for ongoing financial viability. The AEHAP board was left facing dwindling funds and the need for timely, though, difficult decisions.
The 2023/2024 AEHAP Board began a dialog with the Program members through email and a group virtual meeting. The board determined the course for a vote on either sunsetting the organization or identifying additional volunteer leaders to develop a continuation plan. The voting took place throughout December 2023. There was a clear majority from the voting participants choosing to sunset AEHAP. The board had predetermined that sunsetting AEHAP would follow the completion of the 2024 Student Research Competition in July 2024.
